Packaging - Obviously super cute! Great to take with you on the go and you don’t need anything to apply it (apply directly on your face). If you’re worried about bacteria, I’d suggest dabbing a little rubbing alcohol on it and letting it dry off before using. Of course, you must always use it on a freshly-cleaned face.
The Primer – It looks beige, but it applies clear on your skin (suitable for all skin tones). It was very strange for me to use this the first time because I’ve never used a primer in this “glue stick” format before! Benefit suggests to apply foundation before Stay Flawless dries so it can “lock it in” and I think that tip worked quite well for me. (I have some tips of my own at the end of this post on how to use it to get the most effective results.) It has a very faint sunscreen smell – I didn’t realize it until I stuck my nose in there to figure out if it was unscented or not.
What to use it with? – I use liquid foundation 90% of the time, so that is what I used Stay Flawless with. My daily foundation is Urban Decay’s Naked Skin (shade 5.0) and I set it with Tarte’s Amazonian clay finishing powder. Please know that this is not a cure for oily skin. You will still need to blot/powder if you have very oily skin like me. This primer can only be as good as the products you use it with. I will say that the staying power of my make-up is infinitely better when I use Stay Flawless when compared to not using a primer at all.
How long does it last? – It does not last the 15 hours for me. I didn’t expect it to, as many cosmetic brands claim their products can stay on for hours. But it stays on for about 8-10 hours, depending on if I’m outdoors at all. And for the first 3 hours or so, my skin is actually flawless. Then it’s just a matter of blotting and keeping up with powder. (Normally, I start to get oily after 30 minutes of putting on my foundation. No joke.) Overall, this has been an impressive everyday primer.
Tips on using STAY FLAWLESS:
Use a high quality foundation. Like I said, this primer is only as good as the products you use it with.
I’ve tried applying my foundation using my fingers, a Beauty Blender, a foundation brush and a buffing brush. I found that it’s best used with a buffing brush. When I buff/blend the foundation before Stay Flawless dries out, I find that my face is actually quite flawless with it. (I recommend trying out different methods and see which works best for your skin!)
Apply your foundation before it dries out. To ensure this, I put it on half my face first + foundation on that half, then I do the other half of my face. This will ensure it “locks it in”.
If you’ve got oily skin like me, don’t forget to use powder on top of your make-up to set everything!
